Do I need a White Card?

A White Card is required if you are going to be performing any type of work such as the following

Any installation or testing carried out in connection with the construction work,

e.g. Electrical and alarm systems

Examples may include

a) Installing an alarm system in a building during the fit-out phase of its construction
b) Testing an electrical installation in a building under construction (but testing, maintenance and repair work is not covered if the floor has been completed and handed over to the building owner with a certificate of occupancy, unless it is fixing defects arising from the construction work)
c) Installing an alarm system in a house during the fit-out phase of its construction
„d) Testing the electrical wiring and connections in a house under construction (but testing, maintenance and repair work is not covered if the house has been completed and handed over to the owner with a certificate of occupancy, unless it is fixing defects arising from the construction work)
e) Fixing defects as part of the defect liability period after the house has been completed and handed over to the owner

eg. Rubbish Removal

a) Loading trucks, waste bins and rubbish skips with demolition waste

eg. The prefabrication or testing of elements, at a place specifically established for the construction work, for use in construction work.

a) Making concrete panels or roof trusses at the construction site „
b) Preparing bitumen at a bitumen plant specifically established for road construction work „
c) Undertaking on-site concrete batch testing „
d) Making wall frames or roof trusses at the construction site „
e) Making concrete panels at the construction site „
f) Undertaking on-site concrete batch testing

eg. Assembly or disassembly of prefabricated elements on site

a) Constructing a factory using precast concrete panels „
b) Dismantling a prefabricated building „
c) Installing prefabricated power poles „
d) Installing bridge beams „
e) Assembling a kit home „
f) Building housing units using precast concrete panels „
g) Installing a kitchen made up of prefabricated modules „
h) Fencing the site off with temporary fencing panels.

eg. Excavation work and site preparation

a) Preparatory site clearing, benching or levelling done before construction
„b) Soil-testing the ground for design purposes before construction of a structure
„c) Installing an in-ground swimming pool or spa
„d) Doing excavations while constructing a golf course, house foundations, or basement garage
„e) Assembling temporary fencing for a building site
f)  Carrying out remediation excavation work on a contaminated site
„g) Excavating trenches to install services such as gas and electricity other than for the purpose of testing, maintenance or repair work of a minor nature
„h) Soil-testing the ground for design purposes before construction
i)  Temporarily fencing-off the building site.
eg. The installation, testing or maintenance of an essential service in relation to a structure.
a) Roughing-in telephone, television and internet cables
b) Major drainage repair works
c) Installing a waste water or grey water recycling system
d) Installing solar heating units
e) Major drainage repair works „
f)  Installing solar panels
eg. Work carried out on, under or near water, including work on buoys and obstructions to navigation.
„a) Dredging to prepare for the erection of a structure „
b) Re-piling jetties and piers „
c) Building a structure on or near a river, lake or reservoir „
d) Driving navigation markers into the seabed „
e) Constructing a boat ramp or any other structure over water for a waterfront home „
f) Constructing a structure near a swimming pool
